Arriving in South Devon
Our isolated location in South Devon is perfect for getting away from it all, but guests may find it tricky to pick the best way to get here.
Recent road closures due to coastal erosion and long, winding lanes that are challenging even for locals mean that it's best to double check your route before leaving. Satnavs and Google Maps usually take our guests the long way round to get to Gara Rock. But don't worry, you can either add the following waypoints to your route (in Google Maps Navigation, click '...' then 'Add Stop'), or follow the directions below and you'll be back on track.
Waypoint 1: Kingsbridge
Waypoint 2: Stokenham (first roundabout)
Waypoint 3: Gara Rock
After reaching the A38, please follow these directions:
As the A38 forks into two halves; take the Plymouth Route by staying on the right hand lanes.
Continue along the A38 and take the A3121 exit towards Ermington/Modbury/Yealmpton/A379.
Turn left onto Kingsbridge Road/A3121 and continue to follow for 1 mile before turning left onto B3196.
At California Cross (petrol station) turn left towards Loddiswell, pass through Loddiswell towards Kingsbride on the B3196 (Kingsbridge has a Tesco and a Morrisons which are the best place to pick up provisions).
Take Stentiford Hill into Fore Street, turn left into Duncombe Street following the 1 way system onto Church Street, then onto Bridges street.
Take the A379 with the estuary on your right hand side, after 5 miles, turn right at the mini roundabout in the village of Stokenham.
Follow this road for about 4.5 miles and then turn right, signposted East Portlemouth.
About a mile and half down this road turn left, signposted Rickham/Gara Rock.
Continue on lane and turn left to Gara Rock.
Please note: The site is accessed via a narrow country lane.
